Chicken pox, our take on it.

Hey guys, hope you are all having a good week.

Last weekend we were hit with chicken pox , and just two weeks ago the nursery had warned us about the epidemic going around.

Knowing  that chickenpox was a common illness, I had to confess i was not scared, but I felt bad for my little one as I knew it was not going to be an easy one.

He 1st started with regular cold symptoms:

  • Runny nose
  • Coughing
  • Fever

And I was not surprised at all, only to know that after his nap he will wake up with a face full of blisters and burning with fever.

*that day he didn’t eat at all, only fluids.

The main symptoms are:

  • Spots
  • Blisters
  • Scabs
  • Fever
  • Loss of appetite
  • Fatigue
  • Itchiness

How can you catch it ?

  • Touching surfaces that have been contaminated.
  • Touching the blisters.
  • Face to face contact , such as conversation.
  • Staying in the same room with an infected person for 15 minutes or more.

How can you treat it at home ?

We did a serial of bath and ointments that really helped speed up the process. At the moment , He is healing very well with no infected blisters. We bathed him twice a day ,and that helped the blisters dry faster.

After the bath, dry skin by padding it and apply the onitments. We used a foam that really helped speed up the process naturally , as it contains natural antibacterials.

It also calms the itchiness!

We love Weleda because it contains camomile and it really helped him with the itchiness.

We used the lotion for the body, body and hair wash , and face cream.

Now this was just amazing. We found some colloidal oatmeal on Amazon to help him soothe , and as soon as we used this. We had a better night sleep.

We used salted water bath at the beginning ,but it only seemed to soothe for the moment as he woke every other 30 minutes due to itchiness. I still think it’s good it’s you don’t want to buy to many things. Also, a friend recommended bicarbonate of soda, and that helped a lot too.

Baths were our happy times during this process. Also going out for a quick cycle on the countryside.

Another bath tip for soothing is pouring a boiled kettle over the bath with 6 camomile tea bags, wait for it to brew and then add more hot and cold water until you get it to lukewarm.

Alert: treat the fever with paracetamol only, as Ibuprofen makes chickenpox worst.
